26 years ago, on 8 October, 1985, the English-language version of the musical adaptation of Les Misérables opened at the Barbican Theatre in London…

a little under two months later, on 4 December, the show transferred to the Palace Theatre.  It transferred again in 2004 to the Queen’s Theatre and is still there today.  It is currently the longest-running West End musical, the third-longest running Broadway musical, and is slated for a film adaptation to be released in December of 2012.
